Grand Valley State held off a late Michigan Tech rally Saturday afternoon, earning an 18-15 win at Lubbers Stadium.

The win extends the Grand Valley State's decade-long win streak in the series. Michigan Tech hasn’t beaten the Lakers since Nov. 2014.

GVSU struck first with a first-quarter touchdown from quarterback Andrew Schuster to Griffin Shinrock.

The second quarter started off silent when Michigan Tech scored their first touchdown with three minutes left in the quarter.

This motivated GVSU. The Lakers added a second-quarter safety and another Schuster scoring pass to Kellen Reed to lead 15-7 at halftime. Mathew Bacik’s 33-yard field goal in the fourth quarter proved crucial, giving Grand Valley an 11-point cushion.

Michigan Tech quarterback Alex Bueno sparked a comeback with a 25-yard rushing touchdown and a successful two-point conversion with 2:29 remaining, but the rally fell short.

Despite outgaining GVSU on the ground early and showing resilience late, the Huskies couldn’t overcome turnovers and penalties, falling once again to their longtime rival.
