Iowa shut out Bellarmine on Thursday, November 6, during the opening dual of the season for the Hawkeyes.

Match Notes: Iowa Wrestling Blanks Bellarmine, 40-0

Follow along as Bellarmine faces the University of Iowa at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Thursday, November 6, at 6 p.m. Central. This is the opening dual for both teams. 

Tom Brands leads Iowa, and Bellarmine is coached by former Hawkeye Ned Shuck. Iowa and Bellarmine are meeting for the second time in series history, and for the first time at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Iowa leads the series, 1-0.

The teams first met a season ago in 2024. Iowa won that meeting 39-0 in Louisville.

197: Massoma Endene (Iowa) dec. Andrew Liber (Bellarmine), 3-0
First Period: Endene strikes first with a low-level shot, switches to a double, finally hooks a leg and scores with 1:11 left for a 3-0 lead. Endene rides out the period.

Second period: Endene differs and picks top. Stall warning against Liber with 1:46 left. Liber early gets a banana splits, but Endene counters and holds on for a stalemate. Endene gets to his feet but Liber flatens him out. Liber rides out the period and ends with over 40 seconds of riding time. 

Third period: Endene picks neutral. Endene hits a double on a reattack as Liber holds on. Endene doesn't score and wins 3-0 in his Carver-Hawkeye debut. 

Iowa 3, Bellarmine 0

285: Ben Kueter (Iowa) dec. Daulton Mayer (Bellarmine), 8-2
First period: Kueter hits a high crotch halfway through the period, switches off, and scores with 1:12 left. Kueter intentionally releases Mayer, drops in on a single, switches to a double, and scores a second takedown with 20 seconds left. Kueter leads, 6-1. 

Second period: Kueter chooses down. Mayer throws the legs in, but Kueter gets a reversal for an 8-1 lead. 

Third period: Mayer chooses top and throws the legs in again. Stall warning against Kueter as Kueter loses his riding time with under a minute to go. Mayer is close to back points with 20 seconds left. Mayer gets a stall point with five seconds left. Kueter wins, 8-2, as time expires with Mayer on top.

Iowa 6, Bellarmine 0

125: Dean Peterson (Iowa) dec. Damion Ryan (Bellarmine), 5-1
First period: No scoring halfway through the period. A few half shots but no scoring as time expires. 

Second period: Peterson chooses down, stands up, escapes, and secures an immediate takedown. The Bellarmine corner challenges the call that was only a reversal. The call stands, Peterson leads, 4-0. Stall warning against Ryan with 50 seconds left. Peterson rides out the period.

Third period: Ryan chooses down and escapes in 13 seconds. Peterson leads 4-1. No scoring as time expires. Peterson wins 5-1 with a riding time point.

First period: Ayala hits a single, but Eckman scrambles through into a low-single position. Stalement with 1:50 left. No score. Ayala hits a fireman's carry halfway through the period for a 3-1 lead after an escape. Ayala hits a single with 50 seconds left and scores at the edge for a 6-1 lead. Eckman escapes, Ayala hits another single and scores as time expires for a 9-2 lead. 

Second period: Eckman starts on bottom and escapes. Ayala scores on a slide-by, followed by an escape and another single by Ayala for another takedown and a 15-4 lead. Ayala loads up Eckman and gets a tilt for four points and a 20-4 tech fall win.

First period: Bailey strikes with a double with 1:41 left for a 3-0 lead. Bailey works a bar arm and nearly gets a tilt, but doesn't score at the edge. Bailey rides out the period, maintaining a 3-0 lead. 

Second period: Rallo starts on bottom. Rallo escapes with 1:35 left, acquiring his first point. Bailey scores on a slide-by at the buzzer for a 6-1 lead.

Third period: Bailey chooses neutral. Bailey hits a single near the edge but can't score as action goes out of bounds. Bailey adds a riding time point for a 7-1 win.

149: Kael Voinovich (Iowa) dec. Zac Cowan (Bellarmine), 7-3
First period: Voinovich hits a single, lifts the leg, trips, and gets the takedown for a 3-0 lead with 1:20 left. An escape makes it 3-1. Another single by Voinovich, but Cowan rolls out of the position and averts a takedown. Voinovich leads 3-1 as time expires. 

Second period: Cowan chooses bottom and escapes immediately, but Voinovich switches to a double from a high-crotch for a 6-3 lead after an escape. 

Third period: Voinovich chooses down and escapes for a 7-3 lead. Voinovich in a shot as Cowan sprawls, but a stalemate is called with 1:02 remaining. Voinovich hits another single but Cowan gets into a head-to-toe scramble but potentially dangerous, called with 25 seconds left. Another head-to-toe scramble, but time runs out. Voinovich wins, 7-3.

First period: William has a big start with a three-point takedown and four nearfall off a body lock for a 7-1 lead after an escape. William has a cradle locked up for a fall with 1:16 left.

First period: Each wrestler attempts a single, but both counter out. Hall counters a headlock for a takedown for a 3-1 lead. Caliendo hits a single and scores at the edge for a 4-3 lead with 27 seconds left. Caliendo rides out the period. 

Second period: Hall chooses neutral, and Caliendo takes a 7-3 lead with a second takedown. Caliendo scores four points on a tilt, gives up an escape, and gets another takedown for a 14-4 lead as time expires.

Third period: Caliendo picks down, scores a reversal, and Hall gets an escape, and Caliendo hits an ankle pick takedown for a 19-5 lead. A hall escape and a Caliendo takedown make it 22-6.
