AHA Men's Notes: Four Conference Matchups, Bentley Win Streak Open November

It’s the first full weekend of November and there’s plenty of Atlantic Hockey on tap, including a quartet of conference matchups.

Holy Cross hosts Niagara for a pair of games, RIT hosts Mercyhurst, Air Force heads to Sacred Heart, and Army battles Bentley in a home-and-home. Robert Morris also hosts Long Island in non-conference action.

Here’s what fans can watch for this weekend.

Bentley Stays Hot, Tops AHA Standings

Bentley remained unbeaten in conference play last weekend with 3-1 and 7-2 wins at Mercyhurst. The Falcons have now won four straight and sit atop the AHA standings with 12 points – one ahead of Holy Cross.

Nicholas Bevilacqua stopped 22 of the 23 shots he saw on Friday – improving to 3-0-0 with a .973 save percentage. Dylan Cook (1-2-3) and Stephen Castagna (1-2-3) each had three points in Saturday’s dominant win, and Bentley also converted three times on the power play.

The Falcons own the nation’s sixth-best power play at 31.3% (5-for-16) and also received nine votes in this week’s USCHO Poll – the most among AHA schools.

Bentley faces Army in a home-and-home this weekend. Friday’s game is set for a 7 p.m. faceoff at Bentley Arena, followed by a 2 p.m. game Sunday at West Point. Both games will be available here on FloHockey.

RIT Receives Pair Of Monthly Honors

The conference announced its October Players of the Month on Monday, as Canisius forward Grant Porter, Sacred Heart defenseman Mikey Adamson, RIT goaltender Jakub Krbecek and RIT forward Caleb Elfering (rookie) took home the respective honors.

Porter racked up 11 points 4-7-11 over his nine October games, leading Canisius to its first-ever 3-0 start. Porter’s 11 points lead all AHA skaters, while Adamson has five points (1-4-5) from the blue line. The SHU captain also blocked 11 shots in the month.

As for Krbecek and Elfering, the teammates have RIT off to a strong start. Elfering had five points (2-3-5) in six October games, including three points in RIT’s Oct. 25 win over Air Force.

Krbecek finished the month at 4-1-0 with a 1.61 GAA and .940 save percentage. The sophomore ranked second among AHA goaltenders in both categories, and his four wins also ranked second in the conference. Krbecek opened November with a 28-save win over Colgate as well.

RIT (5-2-0, 2-2-0) is currently tied for fourth in the AHA standings with six points and hosts Mercyhurst (0-9-0, 0-3-0) this weekend. The Tigers have scored the nation’s second-most goals (25) since Oct. 15, and RIT is averaging 3.7 goals per game this season.
