AHA Women's Notes: Mercyhurst Stays Hot, Penn State Sweeps Monthly Awards
The Lakers are coming off a five-point weekend and knocking on the door of a national ranking, while Penn State continues its dominant start.

It’s another full weekend of Atlantic Hockey as six AHA teams are in action and eight games decorate the weekend slate – three on Friday, four on Saturday and one on Sunday.
Robert Morris hosts Mercyhurst and Syracuse heads to Lindenwood in AHA action, while RIT also plays a Friday-Saturday series at Colgate. Delaware closes out the weekend with Saturday and Sunday afternoon contests at No. 15 Brown.
Here’s what fans can watch for this weekend in AHA women’s hockey.
Nittany Lions Sweep Monthly Honors
The conference announced its first Players of the Month on Monday and after their perfect 12-0-0 start, Penn State swept the September/October honors.
Senior forward Tessa Janecke, freshman defenseman Danica Maynard, senior goaltender Katie DeSa and freshman forward Matilde Fantin (rookie) took home the respective honors.

Janecke leads Penn State with 16 points (8-8-16) while Maynard has been one of the nation’s best freshmen, putting up 14 points (3-11-14) from the blue line. Those 14 points rank second among all NCAA defensemen and Maynard also owns an AHA-leading plus-18 rating.
DeSa posted the nation’s second-best GAA (0.89) and 11th-best save percentage (.940) in October, and Penn State has out-scored its opponents 56-8 through 12 games. Rounding out the group is Fantin, who is tied for fourth among all NCAA freshmen forwards with 12 points (5-7-12). Fantin also leads the AHA.
No. 6 Penn State (12-0-0, 8-0-0) swept Robert Morris last weekend with a pair of 4-0 wins. The Nittany Lions are off this week and return to action Nov. 14-15 against Syracuse.
Mercyhurst Earns Five-Point Weekend
Mercyhurst earned its first two conference wins last weekend with five points against Delaware. Sophie McKinley scored 3:49 into overtime on Friday, lifting the Lakers to a 3-2 win, followed by a 4-0 win in the finale.
Freshman Tara Bach made 10 saves in Saturday’s shutout – her second of the season – and the Lakers received goals from Julia Perjus, Holly VanNetten, Nayeon Kim and Maja Alenius.
Mercyhurst (5-6-1, 2-2-0) is currently fifth in the AHA standings with five points, just three behind Syracuse and Robert Morris – Mercyhurst’s next opponent. Mercyhurst received 13 votes in this week’s USCHO Poll.
Friday’s game is set for a 3 p.m. faceoff in Moon Twp., Penn., followed by another 3 p.m. tilt on Saturday. Both games will be available here on FloHockey.
