Patrick Williams again will deliver the FloHockey AHL Power Rankings throughout the regular season.

A new team has risen to the top of the Power Rankings. Out are the Providence Bruins, despite a rather impressive week. Taking over are the Grand Rapids Griffins, the AHL’s last remaining undefeated squad. November is when certain early impressions begin to take on a little more weight, and some of the league’s top teams begin to separate themselves from the rest. The bottom teams, too, for that matter. A number of teams have started to reshuffle their rosters if it’s clear that the mix is not working. More moves could come, especially with a collection of top unsigned free agents still out there.

Here is how this week’s Top 10 looks.

1) Grand Rapids Griffins (+2)
The Griffins’ 8-0-0-0 start is the best in the AHL in four years. Offseason signing John Leonard, who had 36 goals last season with the Charlotte Checkers, already has potted nine goals in his first seven games. The Grand Rapids offense is running at 4.25 goals per game, tops in the AHL. Goaltenders Sebastian Cossa and Michal Postava have been dominant. After sweeping the Rockford IceHogs in a home-and-home series this past weekend, the Griffins have a very light schedule with just one game this week.

2) Providence Bruins (-1)
After winning a road showdown with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, the P-Bruins finally suffered their first defeat last Friday in a 2-0 loss to the Hershey Bears. But they came out the following night and thumped the visiting Charlotte Checkers, 5-2. Riley Tufte’s 14 points tie him for the AHL scoring lead and headlines a dominant Providence attack. A two-game trip to Cleveland this week is the next test for a P-Bruins team that has gone 3-0-0-0 in road play this season.

3) Colorado Eagles (+1)
Three games, three goaltenders, three wins, and just three goals surrendered. For as much as the Eagles’ offensive prowess attracts attention, their goaltending stepped up last week. Kyle Keyser, Trent Miner, and Isak Posch all took their turn in net last week and allowed just one goal apiece in posting wins. Since a 4-0 home loss to Rockford on Oct. 25, the Eagles have assembled a four-game winning streak. Those goaltenders continue to have excellent play in front of them as Colorado has allowed just 21.3 shots per game to lead the AHL. They have a chance to pounce on an Abbotsford team dealing with a thin roster when they welcome the Canucks on Friday and Saturday.

4) Henderson Silver Knights (+4)
Break up the Silver Knights, who have a seven-game winning streak and just blew out the Abbotsford Canucks in a pair of road victories. It’s the longest winning streak in Silver Knights history, and a confidence boost for a team that has missed the Calder Cup Playoffs three consecutive times. Even with Carl Lindbom still on recall to the Vegas Golden Knights, they have continued to roll with Jesper Vikman and rookie Cameron Whitehead in net. They can build on this streak at home Wednesday against the San Diego Gulls, a team that they have defeated three times already.

5) Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (-3)
That home loss to Providence still featured stretches of dominance for the Penguins, and they picked up a home win against the Bridgeport Islanders. But they fell 3-1 on the road last Saturday to the Utica Comets, a team that had been winless coming into the game. They also are dealing with line-up changes now as injuries have hit the Pittsburgh Penguin. Standout goaltender Sergei Murashov, defenseman Ryan Graves, and Danton Heinen (tied for the AHL scoring lead) have all gone to Pittsburgh. Defenseman Owen Pickering is back, but those three recalls are significant. They have the Toronto Marlies at home Wednesday, a quick trip to Rochester on Friday, and then have the Comets on home ice this Saturday.

6) Calgary Wranglers (NR)
Quietly the Wranglers have compiled an eight-game point streak (6-0-2-0). They swept Abbotsford in a two-game road set last week before taking care of the Bakersfield Condors in a pair of wins at Scotiabank Saddledome on the weekend. Ivan Prosvetov has settled in with the Wranglers after a rough start, giving the team a high-end number-one goaltender. Home tests against the San Jose Barracuda and Ontario Reign are next. Those games are particularly critical given that the Wranglers will then be staring down a 10-game road trip. At 19 years old, rookie first-round pick Matvei Gridin has been excellent since joining the team on loan from the Calgary Flames.

7) Syracuse Crunch (-1)
Everything was rolling for the Crunch, who had posted three straight home shutouts to begin their season. Then the Belleville Senators came to town last Saturday and dropped seven goals on the home team. All they can do is move on from that loss because they have a busy week ahead of them. They go to Rochester on Wednesday before a two-game trip to Charlotte in a match-up of AHL affiliates for the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning.

8) Rochester Americans (+2)
A 5-2 loss at Laval last Saturday afternoon halted the Amerks’ five-game winning streak. Alexandar Georgiev took a start in net as the Amerks continue to deal with a parade of goalies sent to them by the Buffalo Sabres. But Devon Levi has been solid in net, and at some point the crowded crease that also includes Topias Leinonen should sort itself out.

9) Milwaukee Admirals (NR)
As always, it looks like the Admirals will once again be prominent in the Central Division mix. At 44.4 percent, the league’s best power play has been otherworldly. Ryan Ufko on the back end has been potent offensively for a roster that is a typically well-balanced Milwaukee roster. A home-and-home series with Rockford starts Friday in Milwaukee.

10) Hershey Bears (NR)
After a parade of talent from the Bears’ back-to-back Calder Cup teams departed this summer, this season looked like it would be something of a rebuilding one at the AHL level for the Washington Capitals organization. And it is, but the Bears have still managed to put together some wins along the way. Two offseason signings – defenseman Calle Rosén and scoring forward Sheldon Rempal – have already gone elsewhere, but the Bears have done well to bring in forwards Brett Leason and Sam Bitten along with blueliner Corey Schueneman to replace them. Going into Providence and shutting down the P-Bruins should attract some attention around the Eastern Conference.
