GLIAC Football Preview & Predictions For Week 10 Of The 2025 Season

Here’s a look at the matchups for the GLIAC teams during Week 10 of the 2025 season, along with predictions for each game.

For the most part, the 2025 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football season has been relatively predictable, though there have been a couple of surprises along the way.

But here we are in Week 10, with an automatic bid to the NCAA Division Football Championship on the line for the first time, and there’s still time for things in the GLIAC to be turned upside down.

Ferris State, the reigning GLIAC and Division II national champion, appears to have everything under control and must win one of its last two games to earn at least a share of this year’s conference title.

The Bulldogs are 9-0 overall this season, 5-0 in GLIAC play, ranked No. 1 across the major polls and enter Week 10 on a 23-game winning streak. All of the boxes are being checked.

Mathematically, Michigan Tech and Saginaw Valley State, both 4-1 in conference games, still are in the mix, though they’ll face each other in the final game of the regular season.

Even Davenport and Grand Valley State, at 4-2 and 3-2, respectively, could be part of an epic shake-up.

SVSU can swoop in and win it all. So can Michigan Tech. There also could be as many as five teams tied at 5-2 when conference play concludes next week.

Oh, and as we begin to consider potential at-large playoff berths, we can look at the season’s first regional rankings, which were released on Nov. 2. Ferris State, No. 1 in Super Region 3, was the only GLIAC team among the 40 listed across four super regions.

At the other end of the GLIAC standings, Northern Michigan, Roosevelt and Wayne State are fighting to not finish last, and that deserves some attention, too.

There are a lot of what ifs and possibilities, but let’s get through Week 10 first, then reevaluate.

Here’s a look at the GLIAC schedule for Week 10, along with a prediction for each game.

Note: All start times for Saturday are Eastern. Games marked with an asterisk will be streamed live on FloCollege.

GLIAC Teams In Week 10

Nov. 8 (Saturday)

* Northern Michigan At Davenport, Noon

Despite being 1-8 this year and 1-30 over the last three seasons, the Northern Michigan Wildcats have a lot more fight than people give them credit for, as evidenced by their battle last week with top-ranked Ferris State.

Yes, NMU got blown out 70-35, but those 35 points were the most scored against the Bulldogs since Slippery Rock put up 38 in a losing effort in last season’s Division II national semifinals.

Another oddity, is that Northern Michigan ranks in the bottom half of most GLIAC statistical categories – except rushing.

The Wildcats are seventh in the eight-team conference in total offense with 347.8 yards per game, but they’re second behind Ferris State (293.4) with 257 rushing yards per contest.

Unfortunately, NMU is last in passing, with just 90.8 yards per game, so it’s probably not too hard to figure out what they’re going to do with the ball most of the time.

That said, Northern Michigan has two running backs among the top 5 in the conference – redshirt freshman Noah Dobert (No. 1 at 111.9 yards per game) and sophomore Jahi Wood (No. 4 at 75.5 ypg).

With those guys being so young, if NMU can develop a reliable quarterback, the Wildcats could be a couple years from serious contention in the GLIAC.

The team’s two main passers, who have combined for 63 of the Wildcats’ 65 pass completions this year, both are redshirt freshmen – Duke Shovald (32 for 59) and Trevor Theuerkauf (31 for 64).

That certainly is a lot of info about NMU, but let’s not forget about Davenport, which has dominated Northern Michigan during their short time together in the GLIAC.

Davenport’s inaugural season was 2016, and the Panthers have met up with the Wildcats 10 times since 2017, owning an 8-2 advantage in the series, including the last six meetings.

In 2021 and 2022, they met two times, and that will happen again in 2025, though this week’s game will not count toward their conference records. In the one that did, which took place in Marquette, Michigan, on Sept. 20, the Panthers won 35-16.

However, that was before the Wildcats ended their 28-game losing streak and before they challenged Ferris State.

Davenport will host this game, and it could be a good battle.

NMU has to be confident coming in, and the Panthers are riding a three-game winning streak. Even though the first two were Wayne State and Roosevelt, last week’s 31-17 win over surging Saginaw Valley State actually could’ve been considered an upset.

PREDICTION: This is the best Northern Michigan team we’ve seen in years, and a Davenport squad that is showing late-season improvement, but may not be as strong as recent seasons. This could be a close one, but NMU just isn’t there yet. Davenport wins 34-24.

* Ferris State At Saginaw Valley State, 1 p.m.

Before last week, this game had all the potential to be this year’s unofficial championship showdown.

Saginaw Valley State took a huge step forward by beating perennial powerhouse Grand Valley State for the first time since 2012, but any momentum came to a screeching halt when the Cardinals came up short against Davenport, 31-17.

That ended SVSU’s string of four consecutive wins, dropped the Cardinals to 5-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play, saw them again fall short of this week’s Division II polls and took so much of the air out of this week’s matchup with Ferris State.

Sure, SVSU still could upset the Bulldogs and wreak havoc on the title chase, but the Cardinals continue to be their own worst enemies.

In almost every offensive category last week, SVSU outshined Davenport, but the DU defense – or the Cardinals’ mistakes – proved to be the difference.

The Panthers had four sacks, three interceptions and a fumble recovery and kept the Cardinals out of the end zone in two of the four quarters.

Ferris State isn’t a team that will let mistakes go unpunished, and the Bulldogs certainly won’t waste an opportunity to put points on the board. They’ve posted 50 or more points in five of their nine games this season, so the trick probably isn’t trying to stop them, it’s trying to keep up.

We could go on and on about all the things Ferris State does well, but that can be summed up pretty easily.

The Bulldogs have won 23 consecutive games. They won the 2024 GLIAC title and the Division II national championship – their third in four seasons. They’ve topped the polls for the entire 2025 campaign.

There’s no way FSU isn’t headed back to the playoffs, and it’s statistically unlikely the Bulldogs will lose their last two regular-season games (SVSU and Davenport) and completely fall short of at least a share of the 2025 GLIAC title.

Last year, SVSU did put up a fight against Ferris State, only losing 27-24, so maybe the Cardinals like to save their big performances for the toughest teams – like their 20-19 win over Grand Valley State this season.

All-time, FSU owns a 29-19-1 record against SVSU, including wins in their last 10 meetings. The last time the Cardinals beat the Bulldogs was 2013.

PREDICTION: Ferris State is simply too good this year, and SVSU makes too many mistakes. The Bulldogs will capitalize on those, while just doing what they do offensively. Ferris State wins 42-24.

* Wayne State At Roosevelt, 2 p.m.

All of the best rivalry games have cool nicknames, and since Roosevelt is only in its second year in the GLIAC, also its second season at the Division II level, those games don’t exist yet.

That said, the relationship between the Lakers and Wayne State already has some familiarity, so we’re going to beta test a couple potential names for this matchup (maybe not forever, just for now) – The Battle in the Basement? The Cellar Series?

Entering this contest, Roosevelt is 1-7 overall this year and 0-5 in GLIAC play. They’ve lost seven consecutive games since a season-opening win against Quincy.

Across their two seasons, the Lakers are 2-16 overall and 1-11 in conference games.

Wayne State hasn’t fared much better.

The Warriors are 0-9 this year and 0-5 in conference action. Last year, they were 2-9/2-5, saved only by season-ending victories over Roosevelt and Northern Michigan.

That left NMU winless at the bottom of the 2024 GLIAC standings, while Roosevelt had one win (over Northern Michigan), and Wayne State had the two.

This year, however, Northern Michigan already has a conference win (over Roosevelt to end the 28-game losing streak), so the pressure really is on the Lakers and Warriors.

In 2025, Roosevelt has been outscored 393-163, and WSU has been outpaced 346-104.

A bright spot for Roosevelt is that senior wide receiver Norion Espadron leads the GLIAC in receiving yards (622), total receptions (43), receptions per game (5.4) and receiving yards per contest (77.8).

Roosevelt actually has the No. 1 passing offense in the conference with 260.1 passing yards per game, but ranks sixth in total offense with 361.6 ypg.

At the same time, the Lakers have the worst rushing defense in the conference, and it’s not even close. They’ve given up 310.8 yards per game, while Wayne State is one spot higher with 178.4.

They’re also the bottom two teams in the offensive category, with Roosevelt gaining 101.5 yards per game, and WSU mustering just 54.4.

Wayne State just really had a tough October, having to face Michigan Tech, Ferris State, Davenport and Saginaw Valley State, before kicking off November with Grand Valley State.

That stretch will either have the Warriors battle-tested and ready to win like last season, or battered and broken.

PREDICTION: Statistically, Roosevelt should win this one. Experience-wise, Wayne State should take it. Weather permitting, it could be a battle through the air. Otherwise, a low-scoring, low-yardage ground fight won by the kickers. Wayne State wins 19-9.

* Michigan Tech At Grand Valley State, 2 p.m.

Here’s two teams going in different directions this season.

Grand Valley State is having an uncharacteristically poor season and barely hanging on to a spot in the top 25.

Michigan Tech has jumped ahead of GVSU in the latest FloCollege D2 Football Rankings (No. 19 vs. No. 24), but still has a little work to do in the American Football Coaches Association D2 Coaches Poll, where the Lakers are No. 23, and the Huskies are just outside the top 25.

At 4-1 in GLIAC play, there’s still some hope for Michigan Tech, if the Huskies can win out and someone can trip up undefeated Ferris State.

At 3-2 in the conference, GVSU needs some magical things to happen for at least a piece of the conference title, while losing absolutely is not an option if the Lakers are going to sneak into the playoffs with an at-large bid under the new rules and format.

Michigan Tech (7-2) and Grand Valley State (5-3) both are coming off big wins against struggling conference foes, and while the Lakers are in the midst of an off year, they have a few advantages over the Huskies this week.

  • GVSU owns a 33-4 record against Michigan Tech, including a 20-0 win in 2024.
  • The Lakers are hosting the Huskies this week, and it’s GVSU’s homecoming.
  • The last two times Michigan Tech beat GVSU (2014 and 2010), the games took place on MTU’s home turf.

Is the pressure this week on the Huskies, still trying to prove they’re contenders in the GLIAC, or is it on the Lakers, who are trying to salvage their season and playoff hopes, while not letting down their fans at homecoming?

Has Michigan Tech’s campaign been strong enough to make the playoffs with season-ending wins over GVSU and SVSU, while not winning the conference title and automatic bid?

Would wins over Michigan Tech and Roosevelt be enough for a 7-3 GVSU team to sneak into the playoffs?

PREDICTION: I picked GVSU over SVSU and should’ve known better after last season’s close call. That was my only miss so far this season, but I’m taking some risks this week. Here’s another. Michigan Tech wins this one, 42-35.

How Did The GLIAC Football Teams Perform In Week 9?

  • Davenport def. Saginaw Valley State, 31-17
  • Michigan Tech def. Roosevelt, 56-31
  • Grand Valley State def. Wayne State, 59-13
  • Ferris State def. Northern Michigan, 70-35
