After the back and forth of the Anchor-Bone Classic and just chaos throughout D2 football, hopefully your heart rate is back to a normal rate, but more than likely, it will rise after taking a glance at the rankings.
As Week 9 looms on the horizon, it is officially crunch time. Teams are securing conference championships with games left to play, and the race for a playoff seat has never been closer as teams fight to get off the bubble.
This week’s FloCollege rankings are nothing short of chaos ensuing and there are many things that can be taken away from the Top-25. So without further ado, here’s the Top-25 according to FloCollege.
The Top 5 Are Staying Alive
It is surreal to think that FloCollege has already done 8 week’s worth of rankings prior to this week.
Per usual, the theme of dominance reigns true for yet another week. Ferris State still claims the top spot after the mayhem in Week 8. The Bulldogs stay undefeated after narrowly surviving the Anchor-Bone Classic against Grand Valley State, 38-31.
Harding stays camped out in the second spot. The Bison remain undefeated on the 2025 season now sitting at 8-0. Harding enters the final three games of the regular season and will be back in action in Week 9 to host Oklahoma Baptist on Nov. 1.
Kutztown holds up at three for yet another week. The 8-0 Golden Bears are marching their way through every opponent in the 2025 season and have absolutely obliterated the PSAC East. Kutztown is back at home in Week 9 to host East Stroudsburg.
West Florida remains comfortably at the fourth spot. The Argonauts also remain undefeated in the 2025 season and head into the final two games of the regular season and also 5-0 in GSC play.
Last up in the top five should be no surprise to anyone and it is still Western Colorado. The Mountaineers are on an absolute roll through the 2025 season. Still 8-0 overall and 6-0 in RMAC play, Western Colorado stands in a prime position to win a conference title and secure a play in the NCAA playoff picture.
It is safe to say that all of the top five teams will find a spot in the NCAA D2 playoff picture, but time will only tell about which of these teams will receive the conference winner bid or will be waiting for the at-large bid.
6-10: Some Consistency, A Little Chaos
Spots six through ten are nowhere near as crazy as the week prior. Yes, there are some subtle shifts but for the most part, things seem a little more normal.
CSU Pueblo and Central Washington hold down spots six and seven respectively. The Thunderwolves are back in action on Nov. 1 after having the previous week as a bye. CSU Pueblo will face Western Colorado. Central Washington heads into Week 9 after a huge victory over Midwestern State on Oct. 25. The Wildcats are back home to host the Angelo State Rams on Nov. 1.
Spot eight is where the first shift happens in this week’s FloCollege rankings. Indianapolis raises one spot after being previously-ranked ninth. After having the bye in Week 8, the Greyhounds are back in action on Nov. 1.
The ninth spot also sees a small shift as Virginia Union climbs up one spot from the previous week of rankings. The Panthers head into the Week 9 contest 7-1 on the season and 5-0 in CIAA play.
Rounding out the top-ten in the rankings is where the biggest shift of action takes place as Augustana (SD) moves up two spots after being previously-ranked 12th. The Vikings are undefeated up to this point in the 2025 season sitting at 8-0 on the season and 7-0 in NSIC play.
The four spots in six through ten are going to be those schools that will possibly be “bubble” schools in the coming weeks. The playoffs are never promised even if you are a top contending team so it is important for these schools in particular to make every snap count.
Hold On To Your Hats: Spots 11-20 Are WILD
Here it is, the middle of the pack, the teams trying to stay out of the bottom five spots in the FloCollege rankings or claw their way into the top spots. Well that's the way it normally goes, but in this week’s rankings things are a mess for lack of better words. Teams fell drastically, climbed into new spots and somehow stayed within the Top-25 this week.
Spot 11 sees Delta State two spots up after being previously-ranked 13th. The Statesmen are up after defeating West Alabama, 41-38 in Week 8 to move the team to 1-0 in the first conference game.
Spot 12 houses a new face as well as Pittsburg State falls one spot from Week 8 to now. The Gorillas see a drop after taking Oct. 25 as a bye week but will be back in action to take on Missouri Southern on Nov. 1.
The 13th spot in the rankings sees Minnesota Duluth up two spots from the most previous week of rankings. The Bulldogs are able to hop two spots after picking up a NSIC win on Oct.25 over University of Mary, 54-32.
Officially in the middle of the pack, the 14th spot is who you would expect. Northwest Missouri State holds up the 14th spot, feeling comfortable after snagging a 14-0 victory over Nebraska-Kearney on Oct. 15.
Spot 15 sees a team with a fire lit under them as Findlay climbs three spots from 18 to 15. The Oilers have struck gold in terms of the 2025 season being one of the few undefeated teams left standing in D2 football.
Towards the bottom of the Top-20, the largest drop in the D2 rankings sees Minnesota State drop from eighth down to 16th. An eighth-rank drop for the Mavericks comes after suffering defeat to Wayne State on Oct. 25, 35-20.
The 17th spot sees Slippery Rock holding on for another week in these FloCollege rankings. Angelo State hops up a spot to 18th after taking a win over Sul Ross State in Week 8.
Spot 19 sees Ashland up after being previously-ranked 23rd in the most recent rankings just one week ago. The Eagles took a huge overtime win over Tiffin University in Week 8, 30-27.
Last but not least, the 20th spot in the FloCollege rankings sees Frostburg State up two spots after being previously ranked 22nd.
The Top-20 is an interesting place to be as of late. No one is safe and a home in the top half of the rankings isn’t promised. As Week 9 gets closer and closer, teams should begin to worry about where they land if they want a place in the D2 playoff talks.
Just In Or Just Out: The Most Unstable Real Estate In Top-25
Just five spots left to talk about in this D2 chat, and these last five spots truly are the most unstable in any rankings. To be in the Top-25 is an honor but it is always a privilege, one slip up and teams can fall out just as quickly as they were there. This week is no exception.
Spot 21 sees West Alabama in the lower four spots of the rankings after taking a loss in Week 8. After just playing their second game of football after being on a 21-day hiatus, the Tigers have come up just short in the most recent contests.
In the 22nd spot, Michigan Tech sees themselves on a high after coming up with a big win on Oct. 25 in the Miners Cup. The Huskies secured the 56-17 victory over Northern Michigan.
In the 23rd spot, UT Permian Basin fell two spots despite picking up a 22-6 victory over West Texas A&M in Week 8.
In the 24th spot, Grand Valley State falls after suffering a narrow defeat in the Anchor-Bone Classic on Oct. 25. In just a seven-point loss that kept Ferris State’s undefeated season alive, the Lakers are desperate to get a win and get back on track if they want to have any chance of making the D2 playoffs.
The 25th and final spot in the FloCollege rankings sees a new face in the list of top-schools. Previously not receiving votes, unranked Northwood finds themselves in the final hole in these FloCollege rankings. After claiming a 49-14 victory over Kentucky Weslayen, Northwood will take on Findlay in Week 9.
