2026 NHL Draft: Predicting Team CHL Roster For CHL-USA Prospects Challenge
Chris Peters offers his prediction of what Team CHL will look like for the upcoming CHL-USA Prospects Challenge in Calgary and Lethbridge next month.

The CHL-USA Prospects Challenge is now less than a month away as the top NHL Draft prospects from the CHL’s three leagues join forces to take on the U.S. National Under-18 Team from USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program.

Team CHL swept last year’s games, which saw players like Matthew Schaefer and Michael Misa star in the game. One year later, they’re scoring goals and making a bigger name for themselves at the top level of the sport.
The final roster is expected to be announced this week, with the players set to play games in Calgary and Lethbridge at the end of November.
NHL Central Scouting, which is often involved in the team selection process, announced their preliminary watch list last week. Fifteen of the 27 players named as A-rated prospects, or projected first-round picks, came from the CHL leagues.
An important thing to note is that Team CHL is not only open to Canadian players. Any player in one of the three CHL leagues that is draft eligible can be selected.
Team CHL is expected to have a 22-player roster with 13 forwards and seven defensemen, to go along with two goaltenders. Niagara IceDogs star forward Ryan Roobroeck, reigning QMJHL Defenseman of the Year Xavier Villeneuve and WHL standout Ryan Lin have already been named to the roster as the first three players honored.
Though the roster will be announced soon, I decided to take a stab at what I think Team CHL will look like.
