Ferris State and Grand Valley State added another classic to their storied rivalry on Saturday, and this one lived up to the hype.

In front of a packed crowd at Top Taggart Field, Ferris State edged GVSU 38–31 in a game that swung back and forth all afternoon. The win keeps the Bulldogs unbeaten at 8–0 and extends their winning streak to 22 straight, while Grand Valley falls to 4–3 after pushing the nation’s top-ranked team to the limit.

Taariik Brett was unstoppable early, scoring four first-half touchdowns to power Ferris to a narrow halftime lead. But Andrew Schuster and the Lakers kept answering, refusing to fade even when Ferris appeared to pull away.

In the fourth quarter, Wyatt Bower’s clutch rushing touchdown proved to be the difference—a drive that chewed up the clock and silenced a late GVSU rally. The Lakers struck again with less than two minutes to play, but Ferris recovered the onside kick to lock down another Anchor-Bone Classic victory.

The 2025 edition wasn’t just another game. It was a statement. Grand Valley pushed Ferris State harder than anyone this season, and the Bulldogs still found a way to finish.

End Of Game: Ferris State Wins

Final: GVSU 31, Ferris State 38

Ferris State escapes a scrappy Grand Valley State team to secure their 22nd win in a row. GVSU came to play in Big Rapids, as through much of the game they matched Ferris State score-for-score.

The 2025 edition of the Anchor-Bone Classic was one of the best in years, as the teams have traded punches the last two years.

Taariik Brett had four touchdowns in the first half of play, as the teams went to the locker room with a 28-24 lead in favor of Ferris State.

This was by far the closest game that FSU has played this year. The Bulldogs will walk away with an 8-0 undefeated record, while GVSU walks away with a 4-3 record.

GVSU 31, Ferris State 38

Andrew Schuster finds Lynne Wyche-El for the 19 yard touchdown as the Lakers are not ready to give up.

Onside kick coming.

Wyatt Bower rushes through the middle for the touchdown, which will likely put away the Lakers today.

Bulldogs Running The Clock - 4Q 3:26

GVSU 24, Ferris State 31

Ferris State is content to run as much time off the clock as they can at this point.

But, it says a lot about how Grand Valley State have played against the home team today, regardless of the result.

Two Errors By GVSU - 4Q 5:20

GVSU 24, Ferris State 31

Only about 5 minutes left in this game.
