After a rookie season limited by injuries and a slow start to this campaign, Maddox Dagenais has finally found his stride. The 6-foot-4 forward for the Quebec Remparts experienced a true turning point a few weeks ago following a decisive meeting with the team’s head coach and general manager.

Not long after, he received the call every young player dreams of — an invitation from NHL Central Scouting to take part in the inaugural QMJHL Prospects Game, held Tuesday night in Sherbrooke.

Given a “B” rating by Central Scouting — typically projecting a second- or third-round draft pick — Dagenais came into the event with expectations. With his imposing frame and hands softer than most players his size, scouts wanted to see him play the way he’s capable of.

“If you compete, play hard every night, hit and skate, everything’s going to fall into place,” Dagenais said. "That key meeting with his coaches proved invaluable, giving him clarity and reigniting his confidence.

Since then, the power forward has been on a roll — seven points in his last six games before heading into Tuesday’s showcase.

Skating alongside Igor Shilov (Victoriaville Tigres) and Andreas Straka, his Remparts teammate, Dagenais delivered exactly what scouts were hoping for. From his first shift, he set the tone — finishing checks, moving his feet, and using his size effectively. Despite having little time to build chemistry with new linemates, he looked perfectly comfortable next to Shilov, one of only two players in the game given an “A” rating by Central Scouting.

The Montreal native capped off his night in style — scoring once in regulation before sealing the win in the shootout with a slick five hole shot.

With his size, skill, and a renewed sense of confidence, Maddox Dagenais may be ready to break out. The second half of the 2025–26 season could be the moment he solidifies his place among the QMJHL’s most intriguing NHL prospects — and raises his stock in the eyes of all 32 teams.
