Some of the names already are familiar, while others may never be forgotten once they separate themselves from the rest of the 700-wrestler field at the upcoming 2025 U23 World Championships in Novi Sad, Serbia.

Over the eight days at the Sports and Business Center Vojvodina, men and women from around the globe will compete in Greco-Roman, women’s freestyle or men’s freestyle in search of amateur wrestling glory across 10 weight classes in each discipline.

Among the participants registered for the 2025 U23 World Championships are NCAA standouts, world champions, Olympic gold medalists, established stars, up-and-comers – a little bit of everything.

This year marks the eighth edition of the event, which first was held in 2017, but did not take place in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The previous host cities have been Bydgoszcz, Poland (2017); Bucharest, Romania (2018); Budapest, Hungary (2019); Belgrade, Serbia (2021); Pontevedra, Spain (2022); Tirana, Albania (2023, 2024). The 2026 U23 World Championships will be held in Las Vegas.

The list includes Beka Melelashvili (82kg), who claimed the Greco-Roman silver medal at the U23 Worlds in 2024, Otto Black (67kg), a silver medalist at the 2024 U20 World Championships, and Kennedy Blades (68kg), a women’s freestyle competitor who won silver at the 2024 Olympics, among others.

All of the excitement from Serbia will kick off Oct. 20 with the start of Greco-Roman competition, which will share the spotlight with the women’s events, beginning Oct. 21. Qualification rounds for the men’s freestyle competition will get underway Oct. 25.

The final matches of the U23 World Championships will be the men’s freestyle medal rounds on Oct. 27.

For those outside of the United States who want to tune in, the event will be broadcast live by United World Wrestling, the international governing body for amateur wrestling, on the organization’s official streaming platform, UWW+.
