UNCW men’s basketball opens the 2025-26 season positioned once again as one of the Coastal Athletic Association’s top programs.

After finishing 27-8 overall and 14-4 in league play, the Seahawks head into the new season after adding key transfers and facing a competitive schedule that stretches across eight states.

The program’s steady success under head coach Takayo Siddle—including 15 home wins and a conference tournament championship win last season over Delaware—continues to anchor its identity heading into the new campaign.

The Trask Coliseum crowd remains a central advantage, with UNCW posting a 15-3 home record in 2024-25. The combination of a balanced offense, improved spacing, and elite free-throw shooting (.750 team average) should once again keep the Seahawks in the upper tier of the CAA standings.

Here are three things to know heading into the 2025-26 season.

1. Returning Leadership and Experience

UNCW’s 2025-26 roster features several key returners who powered last season’s 27-win campaign. Nolan Hodge (6’7”, Sr.), Noah Ross (6’7”, Sr.), and Greedy Williams (6’5”, Sr.) bring back size and perimeter versatility, combining for more than 600 points last season.

The group also includes Makoi Mabor Makoi (6’11”, So.), whose rim protection and rebounding (6.0 boards per game in limited minutes) add depth inside.

The continuity of experienced guards and forwards gives Siddle a lineup capable of switching defensively and sharing scoring responsibilities.

2. Offensive Balance and Efficiency

Last season’s Seahawks ranked among the CAA’s most efficient teams, averaging 79.2 points per game while outscoring opponents by nearly nine points per contest. The team shot 47% from the field and 75% from the line, and their +7.1 rebounding margin underscored the importance of second-chance points.

Players like Donovan Newby and Sean Moore (who averaged 14.4 and 8.8 points per game, respectively) set the tone on both ends. With additional size from Patrick Wessler (7’0”, R-Jr.) and Christian May (6’5”, Sr.), the 2025-26 version is built to keep that offensive rhythm intact.

3. A Schedule That Tests Every Area

The 2025-26 slate blends early home comfort with road challenges designed to test the roster’s depth. UNCW opens with exhibitions against High Point and Francis Marion before facing a rugged stretch that includes trips to Kent State, Radford, and Louisiana.

The conference run begins in January with a rematch of last season’s close battles against Charleston, Campbell, and Hofstra. The CAA Championships will once again be held in Washington, D.C., giving the Seahawks a familiar postseason stage to chase another title opportunity.
