Under head coach Geno Ford, the Seawolves bring back proven scoring ability in young talent while adding size, experience, and versatility to a refreshed 2025-26 roster. The Seawolves finished 4-14 in conference play in 2024-25, closing with back-to-back home victories over Hofstra and Elon before falling in the CAA Tournament.
Leading scorer CJ Luster earned All-CAA Third Team honors for averaging 16.8 points and hitting 42.1 percent from three-point range. Luster has since left the roster, and Stony Brook will have to adjust in his absence.
Here are three things to know about the 2025-26 Stony Brook men’s basketball team:
1. Geno Ford’s Seventh Season
Now in his seventh year, Head Coach Geno Ford continues to elevate Stony Brook men’s basketball. After leading the Seawolves to their first CAA Championship Game in 2023–24, Ford developed standouts like All-CAA guard CJ Luster II and rookie Collin O’Connor. His focus on discipline, player growth, and academic success has built a strong foundation for the program’s next step in 2025–26.
2. Strength at the Stripe
Free throws were a bright spot for the Seawolves in 2024–25, as they shot 74.6% from the line—among the best in the CAA. Averaging nearly two more made free throws per game than opponents, Stony Brook showed poise in key moments, including a near comeback win over Delaware in the CAA Tournament. Ford’s emphasis on fundamentals continues to pay dividends.
3. Sharp from Deep
Stony Brook’s perimeter game remains a program focus. The Seawolves hit 236 three-pointers in 2024–25, their fifth straight 200-plus season from long range. That follows a school-record 277 makes in 2023–24, underscoring Ford’s commitment to spacing and confident shooting.
