West Florida football is making waves in DII football. Going 5-0 this season so far, the Argonauts have overcome every obstacle that has come their way.

The Argos topped Northeastern State last week in a nail-biter 31-24 victory. Northeastern State fought hard to defend their turf. Every time the Argos gained the advantage, NSU found an equalizer. With just eight minutes left in the game, the score sat at 24-24. Finally, Mikaiah Stephenson scored the game-winning touchdown off a 15-yard pass from quarterback Marcus Stokes.

West Florida plays in the Gulf South Conference (GSC) along with West Alabama, Delta State, and Valdosta State. Their first conference game is set for Oct. 18. Here are five things to know about the rockstar team:

1. Ranked in the Top 5 Since Week 2

West Florida snagged a top-five spot on the FloCollege ranking in week 2 following their 28-7  win over Kentucky Wesleyan. They started out at No. 7 in the preseason before working their way up. With their consistent play, the Argonauts have stayed in the top five ever since. 

2. Average 34.80 Pts/Game vs. 17.80 by Opponents

It is no surprise that the Argos are outscoring their opponents based on their undefeated record. However, their average points per game is 14 higher than their opponents, giving them a hefty lead.

3. Year-Long Win Streak at Home

West Florida began a home winning streak on Oct. 5, 2024, in their victory against Mississippi College. In that game, the Argos blanked their opponent 31-0 to begin a streak that now stretches seven games.

4. Ending This Season the Same as the Last

The Argonauts closed out their 2024 season in a GSC title match against No. 1 Valdosta. The defeat ended their six-game winning streak, but they still boasted a 7-3 season record. The two teams meet again at the end of West Florida’s season for a rematch.

5. Head Coach Caleb Nobles Leads the Charge

Head coach Caleb Nobles has helmed the West Florida program since the 2023 season. Prior to that, Nobles spent time at Clemson in offensive play development (2021–2022). He already had experience with West Florida’s program, having served as the quarterback coach from 2017–2020.
