The Tampa Bay Lightning’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate is the Syracuse Crunch, a relationship that stretches back to the 2012–13 season. 

The Lightning and Crunch extended their affiliation through the 2026–27 season in a deal struck in 2022, ensuring continuity in their partnership.

The Crunch play at the Upstate Medical University Arena (also known as the Oncenter War Memorial Arena) in Syracuse, N.Y. The team won the Calder Cup in the 1936-37 when they were the Syracuse Stars. 

The current franchise played in the Calder Cup Final in 2013 and 2017 and took three division titles (East Division 2013, North Division 2017 and 2019) and two East Conference titles (2013, 2017).

The team is helmed by head coach Joel Bouchard, who joined the program in June 2023. For fans, Crunch games offer a front-row view of the Lightning’s next wave of talent: players bounce between Syracuse and Tampa when injuries or roster shifts demand it.
