Cedar Rapids Head Coach Mark Carlson Sets USHL Record With 779th Win
Cedar Rapids RoughRiders head coach Mark Carlson set the USHL record for all-time wins with his 779th victory Friday night.

For the 779th time, Mark Carlson coached the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders to victory, beating the Lincoln Stars 3-2 in Cedar Rapids. No coach in the history of the USHL has won as many games as Carlson surpassed longtime counterpart and former Waterloo Black Hawks head coach P.K. O’Handley for the league record.

Carlson is the only coach Cedar Rapids has ever known since its inception in 1999 and it was an awfully familiar result for the record-setting win.
The always-stingy RoughRiders allowed just 14 shots on goal by the Lincoln Stars, while clawing for just enough goals to pick up the hard-fought 3-2 victory. It was a Carlson classic in that sense.
You can always count on Cedar Rapids to be an incredibly tough team to play against, especially on home ice, and that’s exactly how Friday’s contest went down.
Over the years, Carlson has produced dozens of NHL players and hundreds of Division I college athletes.
The New Jersey native has been a mainstay in the NHL for more than 26 years and has shown no signs of slowing down. The USHL record might get put further out of reach when all is said and done.
Glenn Hefferan, USHL commissioner, will be on hand in Cedar Rapids Saturday night to pay tribute to the new all-time wins leader. Carlson will be honored before the game against the Lincoln Stars. That game will air on FloHockey as usual, but it will also be distributed live and free on FloHockey’s social channels including Facebook, X and YouTube. The pre-game ceremony will also be shown.
