Three of last week’s top teams took significant falls, including Indiana, dropping from No. 3 to No. 12; Marshall, falling from No. 4 to No. 22; and Michigan, slipping from No. 5 to No. 11. In their place, Stanford, Vermont, and Bryant moved up eagerly to claim top-five spots.
Georgia Southern, Duke Make Big Moves
Georgia Southern made the biggest leap of the week, climbing from No. 19 to No. 6 after a strong 2-1 win over previously fourth-ranked Marshall.
Duke also surged up the rankings, jumping from No. 16 to No. 9 after a dominant week of play. The Blue Devils secured two blowout wins, defeating Howard 8-0 and Averett 10-0, showcasing their attacking firepower.
Michigan Mens Soccer Falls After Rivalry Loss to Michigan State
The University of Michigan suffered its first loss of the season in a tightly contested 2-1 home match against in-state rival Michigan State. Despite outshooting the Spartans 10-5, Michigan struggled to convert opportunities into goals.
The match remained scoreless until the 50th minute, when Michigan State broke through with an unassisted goal. Michigan quickly responded with an equalizer just five minutes later, but the Spartans scored again to seal the upset. The Wolverines had previously proven themselves against top competition, including a strong showing against then-No. 1 Indiana earlier in the season.
Michigan State Stuns Two Top Teams — But Still Unranked
In a twist of fate, Indiana also fell to Michigan State in the same week, losing 1-0 in East Lansing, Mich. The Spartans once again scored in the second half and held firm defensively to earn the win.
Despite taking down two top-five teams in one week, Michigan State (5-4) remains unranked and is receiving no votes in the coaches poll—highlighting just how competitive and unpredictable this season has become.
