QMJHL Game of the Week Preview: Baie-Comeau Drakkar at Halifax Mooseheads
The Halifax Mooseheads are set to welcome the Baie-Comeau Drakkar as the Free QMJHL Game Of The Week

The Baie-Comeau Drakkar are still searching for their first win of the young QMJHL season, and Thursday night’s matchup against the Halifax Mooseheads — featured as FloHockey’s Free Game of the Week — could be the breakthrough opportunity.

Here are some of the key things to know as we head into Thursday night's matchup.
Can The Offense Get Going?
Through four games, Baie-Comeau’s offense has sputtered, scoring just seven goals — the lowest total in the league. Special teams haven’t provided much relief either. The Drakkar are 2-for-19 on the power play (10.5%), a number that likely drew plenty of attention in practice this week. If they can convert with the man advantage, their chances of breaking through rise considerably.
A Grueling Road Stretch
Thursday’s contest in Halifax marks the fifth game of an extended road trip to begin the season. After facing the Mooseheads, Baie-Comeau will travel to St. John’s for a historic first-ever visit to Newfoundland, playing a pair of games there. In all, the Drakkar will log seven straight road contests before finally returning to Centre Sportif Alcoa for their home opener on October 10.
That home date can’t come soon enough. The Drakkar’s remote location has long been a challenge for opponents — a potential edge once Baie-Comeau finally gets to play in front of its fans.
Beckman Standing Tall
Despite the rough start in the standings, Baie-Comeau has found stability in net with Lucas Beckman, a recent Ottawa Senators draft pick. Beckman has already delivered highlight-reel saves on multiple occasions this season, including a pair of early-season gems that turned heads across the league.

The numbers show that while the Drakkar have dropped all four games, they’ve allowed just 14 goals — middle of the pack league-wide. Considering they’ve faced tough opponents in Rimouski and Gatineau, Baie-Comeau can be encouraged by its defensive foundation.
A Promising Import
Halifax has quickly seen returns from Oleg Kulebyakin, their ninth-overall pick in the CHL Import Draft. The Russian forward has made an immediate impact with four points (2G, 2A) in his first four QMJHL games. After being held off the scoresheet in his debut, he’s recorded at least one point in each of his last three contests, showcasing skill and consistency.
His first career QMJHL goal was a memorable one — a slick wraparound finish late in a win over Saint John (watch here). For a Mooseheads squad still learning how to balance youthful energy with defensive structure, Kulebyakin’s offensive spark has been a welcome addition.

Mooseheads Still Finding Their Way
On the other side, Halifax enters Thursday’s matchup with a 2-2 record. While the Mooseheads have shown flashes of offensive upside, defensive play has been a concern. Halifax has allowed four or more goals in three of its first four games, a troubling trend that will need correcting if they want to remain among the league’s contenders.
As expected, this is a young Mooseheads roster with plenty of talent, but success will depend on how quickly their players adjust to the pace and physicality of QMJHL hockey.
What’s At Stake Thursday Night
For Baie-Comeau, Thursday represents a chance to erase the goose egg in the win column and build confidence before their Newfoundland trip. For Halifax, it’s an opportunity to steady the defense and grab momentum in front of the home crowd.
