Davenport travels to Allendale, Mich., this weekend to face off against Grand Valley State. The Oct. 4 game kicks off at 4:00 p.m. ET at Lubbers Stadium. Here's what to know before the matchup.

The Davenport Panthers and Grand Valley State Lakers first met in September 2017. That game ended in a 48-0 win for GVSU, launching a winning streak against the Panthers that has continued in every meeting since.

Last season, the two teams played in Grand Rapids, Mich., where the Panthers fell 24-7—Davenport’s second-closest contest against the Lakers after a 19-14 game in 2018. In contrast, the 2023 matchup resulted in a 38-0 loss, highlighting Davenport’s recent progress.

Heading into this week’s game, GVSU and Davenport sit third and fourth, respectively, in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) standings. Both teams share a 2-1 overall record, making this year’s meeting one of the most evenly matched in their series history.

Davenport is coming off a strong 35-16 win over Northern Michigan in its GLIAC opener. After conceding an early field goal, the Panthers responded with dominant play, carrying momentum that could drive them toward their first win against Grand Valley State.

GVSU, on the other hand, is looking to rebound after a narrow 17-14 loss to Pittsburg State. Despite a scoreless first half, the Lakers rallied with two touchdowns, but an early field goal by Pittsburg State ultimately sealed the loss. GVSU will aim to bounce back as they begin GLIAC play.
