UTPB Stays Unbeaten with 37-15 Win Over Midwestern State

UT Permian Basin topped Midwestern State 37-15 on Sept. 27 in Midland, Texas. The Falcons extend their undefeated season.

UT Permian Basin extended its undefeated start to the 2025 season with a commanding 37-15 victory over Midwestern State on Saturday, Sept. 27, in Midland, Texas. The Lone Star Conference clash marked the 10th historic meeting between the two programs, and the Falcons left no doubt early in the game.

Behind quarterback Kanon Gibson and a balanced offense, UTPB scored on nearly every first-half possession, racing to a 31-0 lead by halftime. Caleb Sedegan, Kory Harris, Camden Tyler and Ben Patterson each found the end zone, while kicker Angel Diaz remained perfect, tacking on extra points and a field goal. The Falcons dominated possession time and outgained MSU significantly in the opening two quarters.

Midwestern State struggled to find rhythm but showed resilience in the second half. A defensive recovery by Amani Pressley put the Mustangs on the board, followed by a touchdown connection between Sean Jastrab and Kelby Kickerson in the fourth quarter. Another late score narrowed the gap, but UTPB’s first-half surge had already sealed the game.

The Falcons improved to 4-0 overall and continued their momentum at No. 2 in the LSC, while the Mustangs fell to 0-4. The win marked UTPB’s third straight against Midwestern State in this evolving rivalry.

UT Permian Basin takes home the win against Midwestern State tonight in Midland, Texas. They built momentum in the first half, making a comeback difficult for MSU.

The Falcons were favored to win, but they didn't let that impact their game. They still played smart and composed.

Midwestern State made a solid effort. Their scores late in the game ended things off on a more positive note for the team.

Issac Mooring fumbled the ball after losing six yards. It was recovered by Bustard Noah for a rushing touchdown.

Midwestern State Mustangs score their first touchdown of the game. Kelby Kickerson received a pass from Sean Jastrab then ran two yards for the touchdown. Kohen Maroney adds the extra point.

The Falcons possession is cut short by an interception. As Issac Mooring attempted a pass, MSU's Kelton Williams intercepted. UTPB ended the drive with four plays and 31 yards.

The Falcons have built themselves a hefty lead before the first half is even over. Ben Patterson scored a touchdown off of a beautiful pass from Gibson then 46 yard run. As before, Diaz's kick is good.

The Falcons have found their groove. A third touchdown on the board for UT Permian Basin scored by Camden Tyler off of a 24-yard rush. The consistent kicker Diaz adds the extra point.

Midwestern state looks to increase their possession time and hopefully snag their first touchdown.
