Munster bring history and fresh responsibility into their opener. Scrumhalf Craig Casey will lead the side as captain for the first time, while hooker Niall Scannell marks his 200th appearance for the province. Both moments underline the depth of leadership and continuity within Munster’s squad as they begin their campaign away from home in Llanelli.
Scarlets head coach Dwayne Peel said the challenge will be about starting fast.
“We had a fair bit of momentum from the end of last season and it is important we carry that on,” Peel said. “When you have a bit of momentum, taste a bit of success, you want more. Having a positive start is vital. We were chasing the top eight last season after a mixed start, if we want to qualify for the play-offs again, we need to hit the ground running against a strong Munster side.”
Munster head coach Clayton McMillan echoed the importance of early progress. “We’re not the finished product. Every team’s going to grow and learn each week and you want to be playing your best rugby at the back end of the season, not at the front end, but you want your starting point to be higher than where you were the previous season,” McMillan said.
