West Texas A&M vs Western Oregon: LSC Football Matchup Preview
West Texas A&M vs Western Oregon: LSC Football Matchup Preview
West Texas A&M hosts Western Oregon on Sept. 27 in Canyon. Preview records, history, key players, and what to expect in this Lone Star Conference matchup.

West Texas A&M welcomes Western Oregon to Canyon, Texas, this Saturday, Sept. 27, for another rowdy LSC match. The competitors only appear one team apart on the LSC standings list as LSC No. 4 Western Oregon has a 1-0 conference and 2-1 overall record, and LSC No. 6 West Texas A&M has a 1-1 conference and 1-3 overall record.
The teams have faced off four times prior to the upcoming game, and Western Oregon took home all possible wins. However, the closest game (WOU 37-36 WTAMU) was in 2023 during the only West Texas home game. The home turf advantage may be enough for West Texas to find its first win. Here’s what to know before the game.

The Western Oregon Wolves opened LSC play with their greatest winning margin since 1934 in the 66-3 game against Sul Ross State. The Wolves found their first touchdown in minute one and did not stop scoring. Their offense played a tight game, finding 464 total yards and 28 first downs. But the defense played just as much of a factor with five forced turnovers.
Before, Western Oregon played Southern Oregon University for the first time in 15 years. The Wolves earned a 27-7 win in their successful season opener. The game against Cal Poly, a DI team, landed the Wolves their first loss (7-56). Quarterback Jordan McCarty was still able to finish 23 of his 40 passes, achieve 261 yards, throw two interceptions, and score Western Oregon’s single touchdown.
The West Texas A&M Buffs are deeper into LSC play with one 58-27 win against Western New Mexico and a 6-52 loss to Central Washington. In the game against Western New Mexico, the Buffs established a lead in the first quarter and maintained it the rest of the game. Western New Mexico found its first point in the first quarter, but the Buffs’ defense kept them from a follow-up until the middle of the third. By then, the Buffs had too substantial a lead.
The Central Washington game came with difficulties on offense. WTAMU managed one touchdown in the second quarter. Quarterback RJ Martinez, who put all the Buff points on the board, finished 19 of 42 passes and achieved 292 yards. The Buffs still found some success in their defense as linebacker Kuma Scanlan had three tackles and two sacks.
