NCAA D3 Football Roundup: Here's What To Know About DIII This Week

D3 football is back for another week of action. Here's a look at what to expect this week in D3, but also a look back at the opening week of football.

Another week of college football is in the books and the D3 schools are off to the races! 

As Week 2 quickly approaches with all games scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 13, here’s a look at everything you need to know about D3 football this week. 

NCAA D3 Football Week 1 Summary 

Week 1 of Division III football saw several top matchups and scores that kept every viewer on their toes. Some of the most notable matchups included Johns Hopkins taking on Ithaca, TCNJ vs. Lycoming, Mary-Hardin Baylor vs. Bethel (TN) and Hardin-Simmons taking on Chapman. 

Johns Hopkins vs. Ithaca

The Blue Jays came away with an impressive 42-14 win over Bombers to open the road schedule. Johns Hopkins kept their foot on the gas the entire way through the four quarters of play. With 32:24 total possession in the opening week matchup, the Blue Jays had 417 yards of total offense. Quarterback Bay Harvey was 16-of-18 for 161with one touchdown.

TCNJ vs. Lycoming

TCNJ would travel to Williamsport, PA to take on Lycoming in the opening week matchup on Sept. 6. The Lions and the Warriors would battle back and forth all game but at the end, TCNJ would walk away victorious 27-24. The Lions would walk away with 380 offensive yards, 101 of those coming through the air. Starting quarterback, Kyle Vellis, ended the day 4-of-5 with a touchdown. 

Mary-Hardin Baylor vs. Bethel (TN) 

UMHB opened the 2025 season at home on Sep. 6 where they took on Bethel (TN). The Crusaders walked away with a 30-23 win over the Wildcats. UMHB ended the day with 374 yards of offense, 230 of those yards coming through the air. Kirkland Michaux went 19-for-25 in his debut in a Crusader uniform. Michaux had 230 yards and one touchdown. 

Hardin-Simmons vs. Chapman

Hardin Simmons headed on the road to take on Chapman in the opening weekend matchup. The Cowboys ended in the win column after the contest with the Panthers, 37-30. In the one-score victory, the Cowboys tallied 505 yards of offense. Starting quarterback Kyle Brown went 13-of-21 for 242 yards and two touchdowns. 

A Glimpse At This Week’s D3 Football Matchups

With all of the matchups scheduled for kickoff on Saturday, Sep. 13, these are some top matchups on the horizon for the D3 schools this week. 

McMurry vs. Hardin-Simmons

In the D3 matchup scheduled for kickoff at 1:00pm ET on Sept. 13, the two Abilene,Texas schools will face off at Shelton Stadium on the Hardin Simmons campus. In a rivalry game that started back in 2015, the Warhawks and the Cowboys will face off for the 11th time. The Cowboys have walked away victorious in every contest against the Warhawks. Hardin Simmons heads into the contest 1-0 on the season while McMurry is looking to bounce back after starting the season 0-1 after a loss opening week to Southwestern, 27-19. 

Howard Payne vs. Texas Lutheran

After an opening week victory for Howard Payne, the Yellow Jackets will head to the home of the Bulldogs at Texas Lutheran on Sept.13. Howard Payne heads to Bulldog Stadium 1-0 after a win over Pacific University, while the Bulldogs will continue their home schedule 0-1 after a loss to Trinity University on Sept. 6. 

Bridgewater College (VA) vs. Susquehanna

In the second game of a three-game homestand for the Riverhawks, Susquehanna will host Bridgewater College (VA) on Sept. 13 with kickoff set for 12:00 p.m. ET. Susquehanna looks to keep their undefeated season alive after heading into the matchup 1-0 after beating Union College 33-14. Bridgewater will look to bounce back on the first road game of the season after an opening week loss to Stevenson 32-27.
