As we’ve rolled through our preseason stories to help kick off the 2025 college football campaign, much of the talk has been very general, discussing past team performances, coaching changes or shifts in conference structures.

For whatever reason, outside of maybe a battle to determine the starting quarterback, it just seems too soon to be focusing on specific players.

However, in the case of the Pacific University football team, that seems unavoidable, given the success Brody Bantolina has with the Boxers. This week, he was named to the second-team offense for the D3football.com 2025 Preseason All-America Team.

Last season, as a junior, the 5-foot-8, 170-pound running back led NCAA Division III with 2,198 all-purpose yards and was second in rushing wit 1,533 yards, a Pacific University single-season record.

On the way to his place among the nation’s statistical leaders, Bantolina set school records for rushing yards in a game (256) and the longest run (99 yards). His 15 rushing touchdowns in 2024 tied another school record, set in 2015 and tied the following season.

Despite Bantolina’s individual success, the 2024 campaign was a mediocre season for Pacific, though it was a considerable improvement from 2023. The team improved from 2-7 overall and 2-5 in the Northwest Conference to 5-5 overall and 3-4 in NWC contests.

The Boxers finished fifth in the eight-team NWC in 2024 after landing in a tie for sixth place in 2023.

After suffering a four-game skid late last season, Pacific recovered in a big way and closed the year with a pair of conference wins over Willamette (24-10) and George Fox (39-11).

Perhaps that momentum can carry over to 2025 for fifth-year head coach Ian Falconer and his squad.

The Boxers’ 2025 season will get underway on the road against Howard Payne University on Sept. 4. Conference play will start at home against 2023 Northwest Conference champion Whitworth on Oct. 4.
