In 2025, Wilmington College football is on the hunt for its first winning season in 25 years. A significant amount of the Quakers’ 2025 roster is freshman, bringing in fresh talent that the struggling program needs, especially after losing several key players to graduation.

Not only is a majority of the roster new, but head coach Kevin Burke added Rod Tolen as defensive backs coach. Tolen has a strong history of creating elite secondarys and is looking to do the same at Wilmington.

Quarterback Isaac Ross is going into his senior season and is looking to use his experience to help Wilmington win games. In 2024, he threw for 1,328 yards and three touchdowns and ran in another three touchdowns. Alongside Ross is tailback Kai Smith, who ran for 426 yards and three touchdowns as a freshman.

Joseph Spann is the top returning receiver, and he had 11 catches for 159 yards and one touchdown.

On defense, junior Samuel Brooks will be a leader in Tolen’s revamped secondary. In 2024, he had 55 tackles and two interceptions, leading the team in takeaways. Gavan Hunter will lead the way for the linebackers, and in 2024 had 43 tackles and one interception.

Hunter even earned OAC Defensive Player of the Week following a big performance against Otterbein. In that game, he had an interception and a scoop-and-score, nabbing two firsts of his college career, an interception and a touchdown.

With established veterans in all areas of the field, could the Wilmington Quakers find success in 2025?
