In 2025, Muskingum Football is returning several key players on both sides of the ball, but will likely have a new look due to one major factor: a new head coach.

Matt Nardo joins Muskingum after three years as head coach at Bluffton College, where he led the team to a historic turnaround. Now, he’s back at where his coaching career began, this time as the main man in charge.

With the returning duo of quarterbacks Garrett Gurney and Cavan Cooper, the Fighting Muskies just need to find the success to push them over the edge of a winning season.

Each threw for over 1,000 yards, with Gurney leading the way with 1,471 yards and 12 touchdowns on an almost 70% completion rate. Cooper was not far behind, throwing for 1,136 yards and eight touchdowns.

A pass-first offense, top target Davion Grant is set to have another explosive season in his junior year, looking to follow up on his 1,123-yard and eight-touchdown season. Running back Chandler Ross is another returning player set to have a big impact, rushing for 429 yards and two touchdowns. On the ground, Gurney ran for 234 yards, punching in seven touchdowns of his own.

On defense, Martavious Johnson is set for an explosive senior season after recording 88 total tackles, one sack. 2.5 tackles for loss, three forced fumbles, one interception, and one blocked kick at linebacker. The top returning tackler and an experienced veteran, he’ll be the one to lead fellow linebacker Ekyri Williams in his junior season.
