The odds have not been in favor of the MIT Engineers in recent seasons, but that has not diminished head coach Brian Bubna's determination to regain the success he saw from the Engineers prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. MIT left the 2024 season with a 3-6 overall, 1-6 conference record, and has yet to have a winning season since 2021.

However, the Engineers were able to finish second in the NEWMAC conference in defense, allowing an average of just 20 points per game over nine games. The defense collected 500 total tackles and nine sacks, with senior Ryan Hourican leading the squad in total tackles with 55. Senior Donny Stralkus contributed the most tackles for loss with six for 11 yards.

On the offensive side, MIT starting quarterback and junior Thomas Stueber threw for 775 yards, five touchdowns, and four interceptions. Sophomore quarterback Shaunak Joshi threw for an additional 100 yards and four touchdowns.

Sophomore Carson Phelps was a one-man band for both rushing and receiving yards. He recorded 656 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns alongside 245 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown. He was just one of eight players to have over 100 receiving yards.

No updated roster for the MIT Engineers football team has been posted, but it’s likely that Stueber will return for his senior campaign, seeing as he has spent his entire collegiate career at MIT. Phelps could equally make a comeback, but hopefully the team will find someone to help him carry the load.

Bubna is set to start his eighth season with the team and hopes to turn around the Engineers to be the NCAA Tournament contenders that he once knew.
