Tyler Haines made an immediate impact as the head coach of the Catawba football team, orchestrating the largest turnaround in the South Atlantic Conference during the 2023 season.

He inherited a team that was 1-10 the year before, including 10 consecutive losses after a blowout win to start the season, and led the Indians to a 5-6 performance.

Though 2024 didn’t go as well, Catawba’s potential has been noticed by the SAC coaches, who chose the Indians to finish sixth in the new-look SAC this season. The team is coming off a 3-8 overall record in 2024 that included a 1-7 effort in conference action.

Since the conference lost Limestone and Barton after last season, the new campaign will feature 10 teams instead of 12, and the elimination of the two-division format that included a championship game between the two division champions.

The remaining teams will have one goal this year – finish the regular season atop the standings and claim the conference title. 

Catawba’s 2025 season will begin at home Aug. 30 against Ferrum, and conference play won’t be far behind. Week 2 on Sept. 6 will see the Indians head to Emory Henry for the first of their nine SAC games.
