By most standards, the Wilkes University football team had a successful season in 2024.

The Colonels were 7-4 overall and 5-1 in the Landmark Conference, which was good for second place in the conference standings and a second consecutive appearance in the Chesapeake Challenge Bowl Series.

The squad also enjoyed a strong presence on the All-Landmark teams at the end of the campaign, landing nine players on the first team and five on the second team, while five more earned honorable mentions.

Though the season ended with a 40-21 loss to Washington & Lee University in the Cape Henry Bowl, first-year head coach David Biever clearly had the Colonels moving in the right direction after a 5-6 record in 2023.

Biever wasn’t new to the program last year, however, as he’d previously served as the associate head coach, offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator.

But now that he’s in charge, it’ll be on him to continue to elevate the program, which has performed admirably in the two seasons of Landmark play, going 4-2 and 5-1.

Unfortunately, Susquehanna has been an immovable road block in the first two years of the conference’s existence, going 6-0 in 2023 and 2024 and cruising to the Landmark title and NCAA Division III Playoffs both times.

The 10-game slate for Wilkes in 2025 will begin Sept. 4 with a visit from King’s College, and that will be the first of four consecutive nonconference games, before Catholic University of America comes to town to kick off Landmark play Oct. 4.
