There’s no doubt that getting to play in a bowl game at the end of the college football season is special, but it’s not the playoffs.

The Moravian University football team saw its season extended by a game last year after a third-place finish in the Landmark Conference, and while there was no national title on the line, it had to be a good reminder that things are trending in the right direction for the Greyhounds.

The squad improved from 4-6 in 2023 to 7-4 in 2024, so the trajectory is good.

Despite a loss in their final regular-season/conference game last year, the Greyhounds secured a spot in the Chesapeake Challenge Bowl Series – Cape Charles Bowl in late November, where they downed Shenandoah University, 35-14.

The Chesapeake Challenge Bowl Series was introduced in 2023, the inaugural year for the Landmark Conference, and includes two teams from the Landmark Conference against two teams from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference in the Cape Henry Bowl and Cape Charles Bowl.

Wilkes, second in the Landmark standings, fell to Washington & Lee in the Cape Charles Bowl, 40-21.

The ultimate goal for Moravian in 2025, however, is to make a run at the Landmark title, won in back-to-back years by Susquehanna, and advance to the NCAA Division III Playoffs.

The Greyhounds’ journey will begin Sept. 5 at Muhlenberg College, while their conference slate gets underway Oct. 4 against Lycoming College.
