Graduate student and quarterback Mike Ingraffia started in all 10 games for WPI, throwing for 1,720 yards, 24 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He hopes to make a return for the 2025 season, but many of the team's star players from last season are either seniors or graduate students.
The team’s top wide receiver Jay Mezzo is also hopeful to make a comeback and pick up right where he left off. Although not the leader in receiving touchdowns, Mezzo averaged the most receiving yards per game with 42.2.
The Engineers also had some help on the defensive end with tight end Douglas Cain. Over the past two seasons, Cain has accumulated 605 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. Cain was listed as one of two athletes on the 2024 All-Region I Team for his contributions last season, alongside defensive back Gavin Chieff.
Chieff caught four interceptions, defended 10 passes, and made 94 total tackles in 2024.
WPI took losses to conference opponents Springfield, SUNY Maritime, and Salve Regina, but look to avenge their losses with a squad of returning members.
Who Is The WPI Football Head Coach?
Chris Robertson is the winningest coach in WPI football history over two separate stints with the team.
Entering his 16th season, Robertson looks to bring the Engineers to their seventh winning season within the last 10 years.
Robertson had prior experience in the NEWMAC prior to coming on the WPI staff, leading the team at Salve Regina. He not only increased the Seahawks’ win total by 50%, he also increased the squad’s roster from 60 players in 2006 to 94 in three years.
