Pedro Marinho secured the BJJ Stars 16 No-Gi Absolute Grand Prix title with a late guillotine submission over Yatan Bueno, capping off a strong run that included decision wins over Devhonte Johnson and Fabricio Andrey.

Bueno impressed with upset victories against Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu and Haisam Rida before falling in the final.
In the superfights, Julia Alves won a narrow decision over Ana Rodrigues to claim the featherweight title, while Thalyta Silva retained her middleweight belt with a 2-0 win against Helena Crevar.

In a match full of heavy hand fighting and collar ties, it came down to the last minute before Pedro Marinho caught Yatan Bueno in a guillotine submission.
The match was dead-locked near the end when Yatan Bueno tried to move on Marinho before getting caught in the submission. Marinho is known for his ruthless guillotine, a submission he's used more than any other.
Marinho takes home R$100,000 and the BJJ Stars 16 no-gi Absolute Grand Prix title.

Thalyta Silva def. Helena Crevar
Thalyta Silva defends her Middleweight Championship belt against Helena Crevar by decision.
Silva scored early and Crevar pulled guard, but was unable to create any scoring opportunities against the reigning champion.
Silva ultimately won the match 2-0.
Pedro Marinho Def. Fabricio Andrey
Fabricio Andrey aka "Hokage" is eliminated from the BJJ Stars 16 no-gi Absolute Grand Prix by Pedro Marinho in the semifinals. Marinho didn't allow Andrey to get anything going, using his strength and balance to deflect Andrey's efforts, and pushing for his own takedowns.
While there were no submissions, and no points scored, the judges were quick to deliver a decision in favor of Marinho. He'll now take on Yatan Bueno in the final.

Yatan Bueno Def. Haisam Rida
Yatan Bueno, a late addition to BJJ Stars 16, defeats Haisam Rida in the no-gi Absolute Grand Prix.
Bueno garnered two points off an arm drag, and that's all he needed to take the win.
He'll head to the final, where he will take on Pedro Marinho.

Meyram Maquine Def. Leo Souza
Meyram Maquine and Leo Souza were the fourth Super Fight of the night, as the black belts went the distance.
Maquine took home the win by points, 2-0, but seemed disappointed he was unable to get the submission.

No submission, but Pedro Marinho took the judge's decision in defeating Devonte Johnson. Marinho moves on to a huge matchup against Fabricio Andrey.

Haisam Rida moves on to the semifinals after submitting Eli Braz only 1:30 into the match with a rear naked choke.
Fabricio Andrey Def. Javier Zaruski
Fabricio Andrey showed his strength as he performed two takedowns on a much larger opponent in Javier Zaruski, scoring 8 points before Zaruski was able to recoup a few points. Andrey wins 8-2.
Andrey is looking very dangerous as he moves on to the semifinals.

Yatan Bueno game out with a ton of energy at the beginning of the match, hand-fighting against the elder Cyborg and trying to exhaust him. It mostly worked, as Cyborg pulled guard (our announcers noted they couldn't recall the last time Cyborg had done that).
Cyborg had a chance at a heel hook, but Yatan Bueno was able to work his leg out of it. It went to the judges and Yatan Bueno wins by decision as Cyborg is eliminated.

Pablo Oliveira defeated Argentinian Matea Ruiz, in the first black belt match of the night. Oliveira won by points, 2-0.

Livia Barasine scored 14 points before submitting Eduarda Munis with an armbar in the first match of the night.

BJJ Stars 16 features an absolute no-gi grand prix, meaning athletes of all weight classes compete in a single bracket.
Matches are 7 minutes and the tournament follows modified ADCC-style rules with points starting from the beginning of the match, no guard-pulling penalties, and no overtime.
The eight-man, single-elimination format requires the winner to defeat three opponents to claim the title.
