In 2025, the West Texas A&M Buffaloes are looking to build off their 5-6 season, and return to a winning record for the first time since 2021. But getting back to winning will be a tall task for the Buffaloes, as they lost a significant amount of starters, including top four wide receivers, top rusher and top four defensive players.

Not only did they lose several key skill players, but also quarterback Kanon Gibson, who transferred to conference opponent UT Permian Basin. Sophomore Knox Porter is the next man up at quarterback, but has not completed a pass in his college career. 

Led by head coach Josh Lynn, the Buffaloes are looking to rebuild, and Lynn, who is going into his third year at the helm of the program, has his work cut out for him. After his first two seasons, he has a combined record of 8-13 but has had success at the DII level, as he led his previous school Nebraska-Kearney to a 35-25 record during his tenure and made it to the second round of the Division II Playoffs in 2021.

He’s begun to rework and add to his staff ahead of the 2025 season, naming Justin Bane as the new offensive coordinator and promoting Justin Richter to defensive coordinator. 

Now, the Buffaloes are looking to use their new signing class to improve the program, bringing in several top players from Texas. With a hole at quarterback, Lynn signed three new quarterbacks, hoping one can make an impact and slide into the starting role.
