In 2025, the Midwestern State Mustangs are looking to bounce back from a 4-7 season in 2024. With quarterback Andrew Knebel returning for his junior season, the Mustangs have a high offensive potential, as Knebel threw for 1,015 yards and seven touchdowns in just eight games last season.

Now, not only is he returning to lead the offense, but his top receiver, Demonte Greene, who caught 35 passes for 550 yards and five touchdowns, is also returning. Top running back Jalen March is returning as he led the run-heavy offense with 533 yards and two touchdowns. Top scorer Christian Olige is also returning, as he had just 179 yards but punched in four touchdowns. 

On defense, Ezra Davidson and Jaylin Broadus are the top returning defensive players, and they combined for 78 tackles. Davison had five tackles for loss and one sack, as well as four quarterback hits and one pass breakup. Broadus had one interception and five pass breakups. 

The veteran duo will be leaders on the Mustangs' defense, looking to help lock down opposing offenses. 

Head coach Rich Renner is going into his second season as head coach of the Mustangs, following 16 seasons as the defensive coordinator and is looking to have more success in his second year. He’s following Bill Maskill, who retired after 22 years and a 160-19 record, leaving big shoes to fill.

Renner had tremendous success at the defensive coordinator position and is now looking to extend that success as head coach.
