The Best Matches From The Girls Divisions at Fargo 2025

The 16U and Junior girls divisions at the 2025 U.S. Marine Corps Junior Nationals from Fargo, North Dakota, provided yet another trove of memorable matches. Here are a few of our favorite bouts from this year's massive wrestling jamboree.

Taina Fernandez Wins Double Stop Signs

Fernandez over Beckley for a 16U title:

Fernandez defeats Marsh for title #2:

No discussion of the female brackets at Fargo in 2025 would be complete without mentioning the incredible performance by Maryland's Taina Fernandez, who won both the 16U and Junior 135lb championships in dominant fashion.

What made the accomplishment so notable was the fact that the 16U and Junior quarters, semis and finals ran concurrently, so Fernandez had to bounce from mat to mat on day 2 with little rest between bouts. The Archbishop Spalding rising junior finished her Fargo having wrestled 12 matches in two days, recording 10 tech-falls and 2 pins in one of the most spectacular performances in Fargo history.

Bouzakis Survives Valdez's Comeback Attempt

null

Fernandez wasn't the only one providing fireworks in the junior finals. Wyoming Seminary standout Jaclyn Bouzakis raced to an early lead but found herself in a high bridge for a good portion of the second period as Katey Valdez mounted a ferocious comeback attempt.

Bouzakis avoided the pin and collected her first junior stop sign, which followed a 16U championship from 2024.

Eve Skrocki Comes Up Clutch

null

There was plenty of drama in the 16U finals as well. At 145lbs it appeared as though Gray Joyce would pull off the upset until Eve Skrocki came up clutch in the final seconds.

Akpan Also Exhibited The Clutchness

null

For more dramatic finals matches, kindly check out Nora Akpan over Alexis Lazar, and pay special attention to the final 30 seconds.

Olivia Georges' Cinderella Run

null

Throw the rankings out when you step inside the Fargodome. Despite being ranked #12 nationally, Oliva Georges won a junior title over #11 Sarah Henckel and this semifinal bout over #2 Cassandra Gonzales.

Harlee Hiller Prevails In A Shootout With Taylor Whiting

null

It doesn't get much better than a 10-10 shoutout with a spot on the Fargo main stage on the line! Both wrestlers acquitted themselves admirably, however, as is always the case, only one competitor can get their hand raised after the final whistle.

Carder With The Upset Pinfall!

null

#22 Mackenzie Carder provided a 'stand up and cheer' moment for Team Ohio when she countered an attack by #8 Libby Roberts to advance to the quarterfinals.

Those were just a small portion of all the amazing matches that took place over two days in the Fargodome. What are some of your favorites that we didn't mention? Here are the results from the 16U and Junior divisions if you need a refresher!
