Hot off a Gulf South Conference championship win, Valdosta State Football had a perfect record through the regular season and nearly ran away with the NCAA Division II title in their best season since 2018.

A loss to the No. 2-ranked Ferris State Bulldogs in the second round of the NCAA DII playoffs squashed that dream, but the Blazers are back again in hopes of making it all the way this time around with a reloaded roster and new head coach. 

Valdosta State will be without its top three playmakers: quarterback Sammy Edwards, wide receiver Rodney Bullard, and running back Blake Hester. Edwards threw for nearly 3,300 yards and over 30 touchdowns, while Bullard and Hester contributed over 1,000 offensive yards each. 

The Blazers return backup quarterback Seth Smith, wide receiver Sammuel Curry, and running back Joseph McKay, who all could play significant roles next season. 

Stepping in as head coach will be former offensive coordinator Graham Craig, who enters only his second season with the program. His efforts on the Blazers coaching staff last year helped the team finish 11th nationally in yards per game and first in the GSC.
