William & Mary Football 2025 Season Preview | CAA Football
William & Mary hope to be on the come up after a less than ideal end to last season.

Just like their old conference rival Villanova, the William & Mary Tribe is set to leave the CAA behind for the Patriot League beginning with the 2026 season, putting on the pressure to leave behind a memorable final year within the conference.

The Tribe has looked less dominant in recent years in comparison to its breakout season back in 2022 where the team went 11-2 and reached the quarterfinals of the NCAA D1 Playoffs. William & Mary put up a 7-5 record last season and tragically finished it out with a complete shutout from Richmond in the Capital Cup.
Senior quarterback Darius Wilson led the Tribe with nearly 2,000 passing yards, 12 touchdowns, and eight interceptions in 2024 and capped off his four-year tenure as just one of two players in school history to record 5,000 career yards. He’ll now pass off the torch to rising junior quarterback Tyler Hughes, who saw some action last season at backup.
Through six games played, Hughes threw for 132 yards and two interceptions on 23 attempts. It’s unclear whether Hughes is guaranteed the starting spot, as William & Mary have brought in a transfer quarterback from Syracuse, but it’s most likely.
The Tribe will also be without its prime wide receiver senior Mathis Hollis, who caught 52 passes for 602 yards and three touchdowns, but returns incoming junior tight end Sean McElwain, who scored five touchdowns and averaged 18 yards per catch.
Who Is The William & Mary Football Coach?
Mike London is the decorated head coach of William & Mary and approaches his seventh season at the helm.
London helped the Tribe achieve a No. 10 national ranking in 2024 and its third straight year within that top 10. Last season, he also saw five of his student-athletes receive a combined 20 All-America honors, including offensive lineman Charles Grant, who was taken in the third round of this spring’s NFL Draft.
Following William & Mary’s 11-2 campaign in 2022, London received the Bobby Ross Coach of the Year award and the VaSid Coach of the Year Award, to name a few of his accolades. His most recent came this year with the W&M Plumeri Award, given to a faculty member that projects the university’s core values and harbors excellence in their work.
London brought William & Mary to four consecutive winning seasons for the first time in 25 years, and he looks to continue that accomplishment into 2025.
