Rhode Island Rams 2025 Football Season Preview | CAA Football
Rhode Island Football looks to remain dominant atop the CAA football standings. Here's a preview of the Rams before their home opener vs Campbell Football.

Rhode Island enters the 2025 season as one of the most dominant teams in the CAA conference. The Rams stunned with a 11-3 overall, 7-1 conference record, standing one game short of tying with Richmond for the top spot. They made it all the way through the First Round of the FCS Playoffs, falling to No. 7 Mercer in the Second Round by one touchdown.

It will be interesting to see how the Rams fare in 2025 without crucial playmaker, running back Malik Grant. The graduate student racked up over 1,400 rushing yards on 272 attempts alongside 13 touchdowns and averaged over 100 yards per game, including two with 200 yards apiece.
However, Rhode Island quarterback and wide receiver duo Devin Farrell and Marquis Buchanan look to return stronger and sharper for the Rams, already sporting their chemistry during the program’s annual Blue-White Spring Game back in April.
Farrell finished out the season with 1,670 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, and a 58% completion rate, unfortunately having to miss out on the last four games of the season due to injury.
Buchanan remained Farrell’s right-hand man throughout the year, recording 1,124 receiving yards and eight touchdowns on 82 attempts. He played in all 14 games for the Rams, having four with over 100 receiving yards.
Season tickets have already sold out for Rhode Island, proving that the 2025 season looks to be just as exciting. The Rams will open up the year against Campbell on August 29 at home.
Rhode Island Football Head Coach
Jim Fleming heads into his 12th season with the Rams after capturing his fifth-straight with a winning record and a program-best 11 wins. He led Rhode Island to the 2024 CAA Football Championship title, its first ever, and a No. 10 seeding in the 2024 FCS Championship.
Rhode Island has seen an abundance of success under Fleming, including the program’s first winning season in 2018 following a 17-year drought. He has also seen multiple players filter into the NFL under his guidance,
Prior to Rhode Island, Fleming stood as the defensive coordinator for the University of Central Florida. His efforts helped lead the Knights to two straight bowl appearances in 2012-2013.
