Bo Bassett dropped a Sunday evening bombshell when the highly coveted recruit announced his decommitment from Iowa.

The #2 overall prospect in the 2026 class committed to the Hawkeyes in February when he picked Iowa over Oklahoma State, Penn State and Virginia Tech. Less than a month after Bassett’s initial decision, Hawkeye fans showed up in droves for a meet and greet with the new Iowa recruit at the Flowrestling Night in America event in Coralville, Iowa. Rudis, Bassett's apparel sponsor, had an Iowa-themed Bassett line of merchandise for sale in recent months.

Hawkeye fans flocked to Xtream Arena to catch up with Bo Bassett before FloWrestling Night In America: Lee vs Ono! Here’s the line for his meet and greet.

Now, nearly five months later, the U20 World bronze medalist and U17 World champ from Pennsylvania declared he’s back on the recruiting market.

“After a lot of prayer and talking with my family, I’ve decided to decommit from the University of Iowa,” Bassett wrote Sunday on a Facebook post. “This wasn’t easy, but I believe it’s not the right fit for me as a wrestler, a person, or for my faith journey. I’m grateful for the opportunity, and I’ll never speak a bad word about their program. This is about finding the place God wants me to be. This is a huge decision in my life and it has to be the right one.

I would like to thank all of the Iowa fans who have supported me. You have been amazing and I am grateful for the support you showed me.”
