2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships Fast Facts: 5th-10th Place

The 2025 NCAA Championships provided us with historic feats, upsets and dozens of notable facts and figures. Flowrestling's Andy Hamilton and Andrew Spey took a dive into some of the compelling stats that came out of the national tournament in Philadelphia with some assistance from the Mat Talk Almanac. The multi-part series continues with a look at the performance of teams that finished fifth through tenth.

— Cornell had three All-Americans. It was the 21st consecutive trip to the NCAA Championships in which the Big Red have accomplished that feat. 

— NC State returned to the top 10 after finishing tied for 11th a year ago. The Wolfpack have finished inside the top 10 five of the last seven years at the national tournament. 

— Pat Popolizio took over the reins of the Wolfpack wrestling program in April of 2012. He got his first All-American in March of 2014. He’s had 27 All-Americans since, including three in Philadelphia. 

— Vincent Robinson became NC State’s ninth NCAA champion, the school’s first freshman national champ and first for the Wolfpack at 125 pounds. 

— Northern Iowa returned to the top 10 for the first time since 1992, and the ninth-place finish was the highest the Panthers have finished in the team standings at the D1 level since they were fifth in 1962. 

— Parker Keckeisen and Cael Happel reached the podium for the Panthers. With that, Doug Schwab has now coached 17 All-Americans since he took over in Cedar Falls in the spring of 2010. 

— Keckeisen is the first Northern Iowa wrestler to reach the finals in three straight years since Keith Young (1949-51).

— Illinois returned to the top 10 for the first time since 2016. 

— Lucas Byrd won Illinois’ 25th national title and the first since Isaiah Martinez in 2016.
