The Demon Deacons got in on this season's fast collegiate DMR action.
In Boston on Friday night at the BU Terrier DMR Challenge/Last Chance meet, Wake Forest ran 9:17.17 to set a new collegiate No. 4 all-time mark in the men's distance medley relay.

Paul Specht started things off for the Demon Deacons with a 2:51.13 split on the opening 1,200m leg, and then passed the baton off to Foster Shelbert, who ran 47.97 for 400m. Rynard Swanepoel then clocked 1:47.89 over 800m, and Rocky Hansen anchored it home in 3:50.22 for the 1,600m leg.
Hansen put together a furious kick over the final meters to finish just ahead of UNC's Ethan Strand, who helped the Tarheels to second in 9:17.19.
It was just a few seconds off of the 9:14.19 set merely hours earlier by Virginia at the Arkansas Qualifier, as well as the all-conditions mark ran last week by Washington at the UW Husky Classic on Spokane's oversized track. Prior to the 2025 season, the record was held by Oklahoma State, who ran 9:16.40 back in 2023.
