Romain Legendre was a man on a mission at the BU Valentine Invitational.
The Adams State star powered his way to an impressive 7:36.28 3,000m win on Friday at the Boston University Track And Tennis Center, setting a new NCAA DII record. The time also ranks as the sixth fastest in indoor collegiate history, regardless of level.
The newest mark doesn't come as much of a surprise. Two weeks ago at the BU Terrier Classic, Legendre shattered the NCAA DII record in the 5,000m. He posted a 13:02.08, which additionally sits as the third fastest collegiate mark ever.

Legendre took advantage of an early fast pace. He split 2:03 through 800m before coming through 1,600m at 4:08.05. From there, he only got faster. He covered the next 800m in 2:01 before capping the race with three consecutive 200m laps under 30 seconds.
His ran his final 1600m in a 3:58.97.
However, entering the 2024-25 season, his time would have been an NCAA record. Drew Bosley held the NCAA record of 7:36.42 until Ethan Strand set the new mark at the BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener. That race also saw Parker Wolfe, Yaseen Abdalla and Gary Martin run faster than the previous mark.
Then, Liam Murphy ran 7:35.47 at the BU Bruce Lehane Scarlet and White Invitational last weekend to move to No. 4 all-time.
The top eight times in NCAA indoor 3k history have all been run at BU, and now Legendre claims the number six spot.
